Actress from ‘The O.C.’, Mischa Barton reveals past relationship with Ben McKenzie, also an actor from the series at the time, on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast.
Barton was 17 years old and McKenzie was 25 years old, and their characters had a romance on the show. She revealed the relationship and said “it wasn’t just on the show”. The actress said it was a secret relationship early on in the series.
“I was a late bloomer in school, and I had never had a boyfriend. I just had no idea what I was doing. So, I felt like I needed to catch up,” Barton told the podcast.
The actress is now 38 years old and Ben McKenzie is 45 years old. Barton also told the podcast that McKenzie “was her first” and also said, “I didn’t know what I was doing.” “I joined that series a virgin, a kid,” Barton added.
Barton said the relationship started very quickly and she felt “overwhelmed and not ready for any of it.”
She also recounts that the series producers were concerned about the age difference between the two actors. “They [producers] went to talk to my parents about it. It was a real ordeal.”
‘The O.C.’ aired on US television from 2003 to 2007 on the Fox channel.
